Your learner journey

Learner information is provided before enrolment and continues throughout participation, assessment and completion.

Learners are expected to review the programme-specific information provided for their course and the relevant institutional policies. For the current accredited provision, learners should consult the Award in First Aid Basics programme page and the applicable Programme Information and Learner Guide.

The Student/Learner Handbook provides general institutional guidance and should be read together with the programme-specific learner documentation.

Engagement

Attendance and participation

Attendance and participation form part of the learner record and support evidence of programme completion.

Learners are expected to attend and participate in the learning activities required by the programme. For short vocational provision, participation may include classroom instruction, demonstrations, supervised practical learning and assessment.

Learners who are unable to attend or who experience circumstances that may affect participation should contact the Academy promptly so that the situation can be considered.

Current programme: The Award in First Aid Basics is delivered face-to-face over two days and includes contact hours, supervised practical learning, self-study and assessment.

Examination Rules

Assessment and reassessment

Learners are informed of the assessment method, pass requirements and assessment conditions before assessment takes place.

Assessment is governed by the MDA Academy Malta Assessment Policy and Procedure. The policy covers assessment design, delivery, marking, result recording, internal verification, reassessment, appeals and malpractice management.

Programme-specific assessment arrangements are published on the relevant programme page and in the Programme Information and Learner Guide.

Award in First Aid Basics: The final assessment consists of a Multiple-Choice Question (MCQ) test with a required pass mark of 75%. Supervised practical hours form part of the learning process and are not an additional summative assessment.

Ethical Standards

Academic integrity and learner conduct

Learners are expected to act honestly, respectfully and in accordance with institutional and assessment requirements.

Assessment integrity

Cheating, impersonation, plagiarism, unauthorised assistance, falsification of evidence or other conduct intended to distort assessment outcomes may be treated as malpractice.

Respectful conduct

Learners are expected to treat staff, trainers and other learners respectfully and to follow reasonable institutional, classroom and health and safety instructions.

Fair treatment

MDA Academy Malta applies its Equality, Ethics and Anti-Discrimination Policy to support fair and respectful treatment and to address inappropriate conduct or discrimination.

Learner Protection

Complaints and appeals

Learners have access to formal procedures for raising concerns and requesting review of relevant decisions.

A complaint may concern programme delivery, administration, learner support or other institutional matters. An assessment appeal may be raised where the learner believes that a procedural error, marking error, bias or another irregularity affected the assessment outcome.

Complaints and appeals should be submitted through the procedure published by the Academy so that the matter can be recorded, reviewed and concluded consistently.

Award & Completion

Progression and certification

Progression and certification are determined in accordance with the requirements of the relevant programme.

For short vocational programmes, progression may consist of attendance, participation in required learning activities and successful completion of the approved assessment rather than progression between academic years.

Before certification, MDA Academy Malta verifies that the learner has satisfied the applicable completion requirements and that the outcome is supported by the learner record.

Current certification outcome

Successful completion of the current accredited programme leads to the Award in First Aid Basics, issued by MDA Academy Malta, at MQF/EQF Level 3 with 1 ECTS.
